MINI Malaysia today presented the New all-electric MINI on the brand’s 61st Birthday. This all-electric MINI is based on the Cooper S in a 3-door hatch variant.
The new MINI EV takes up model-specific bumper and grille blades in Vigorous Grey (also in yellow) with yellow E-Badge at the front. Standard head- and rear-lights are Matrix LEDs front and the rear has lights with Union Jack design.
The car’s profile has E-Badge on the side scuttle, aero-optimized mirror caps in either black or yellow and mirrors with anti-dazzle. Completing the package are 17-inch two-tone wheels with run flats. From the rear, there’s a charging flap with embossed E-badge in body color and tailgate handle in Vigorous Grey, as well as badges and bumper with diffuser.
A MINI is instantly recognizable on the inside, but this MINI EV has model-specific goodies including MINI Electric Cockpit fascia, a Start/Stop button in yellow, anti-dazzle rear view mirror, unique floor mats, a selector lever and a switch to toggle brake energy recuperation. Other than that, there’s Leather Cross Punch seats in Carbon Black, 12-Color Illuminated ambient lighting, a boot space of 211 liters (expandable up to 731 liters), 8.8-inch toucnscreen, 5.5-inch Digital instrument cluster, HUD and 12-Speaker Harman Kardon Sound system.
The MINI EV is powertrain is aided by an electric motor to produce 184 HP and 270 Nm of torque. Reaching a maximum speed of 150km/h and a driving range of up to 270km (NEDC), the MINI EV is capable of achieving the century sprint in 7.3 seconds. The three-door hatch will also be driven with a single-speed transmission. Charging up to 80 percent takes 2 ½ hours either with a wallbox or specific charging options. The charging progress can be viewed on the inside of the car’s charging flap.
The MINI EV is equipped with brake energy recovery, which converts energy into electric power. The car has four driving modes: Sport, Mid, Green and Green with limitation. With actuator-contiguous wheel slip limiter (ARB) function, traction is greatly improved. The function also reduces power understeering that usually occurs with front-wheel drive vehicles. The rear axle is configured to the front axle, which features electric-specific steering knuckles; this enables an electric-specific suspension setting in combination with the body-mounted wheelhouse liners. Additionally, there’s the MINI eDrive, a state-of-the-art feature that offers intelligent digital services and functions for a hassle-free drive. At the same time, MINI Connect app gives the driver full information of the car’s status.
The new MINI EV is the first to be equipped with the Driving Assistant system. This camera-based driving assistance system package consists of the Speed Limit info, as well as the digital high-beam assistant which automatically activates at speeds of 50 km/h and higher, or when there is insufficient exterior lighting. Other standard assistive systems are Park Assistant, front and rear Park Distance Control, Cruise Control with braking function and Wired packages.
The new MINI EV comes in White Silver with yellow shade, Green and Red colors, and it comes at a price tag of RM 218,380.78.
