Your Ultimate Camping Checklist
Going camping is one way to disconnect yourself from the stresses from work and society. It’s a great way to revitalize yourself or with your family members, don’t forget the memories you can document! Although camping seems like a fun activity to take on, you’ll still need a camping checklist to get yourself prepared for it.
Here’s the ultimate camping checklist prepared just for you:
Camping Checklist
Suitable Gear
If you plan to camp for a few days, it’s advisable to bring suitable gear along with you.
- Microfibre Clothing (shirts & pants)
Having microfibre in your clothing helps to absorb moisture and evaporates the absorbed moisture well, leaving your skin comfortable. - Long Sleeves, Pants & High Ankle Socks
You should bring along some long sleeves, pants and high ankle socks with you. It can get really cold at night. With this in mind, socks will keep your feet warm and make sure you’ll sleep well. - Footwear
It’s best to go for hiking boots or shoes suitable for terrain. Furthermore, hiking boots work well in muddy areas.
The Tent
There is a wide range of tents available in-store, here are some recommendations:
- A-Frame/Ridge-Style Tents
The typical tents that you can see in television shows are the A-Frame or Ridge-Style Tents. Easy to pitch, lightweight and reasonably stable when the wind strikes. However, the poles may interfere with the provided sleeping space. In terms of price, it’s considerably affordable. - Geodesic and Semi-Geodesic Tents
These tents come with more poles. You’d have to crisscross the poles at the centre points at the top of the tents. This setup stabilizes the tent’s structure, providing you fewer worries when the weather decides to throw a tantrum. Price-wise, it’s slightly on the expensive side. - Backpacking Tents
If you’re often backpacking, you should consider getting yourself a backpacking tent. Compared to a Geodesic and Semi-Geodesic Tent, the fabric and pole materials used are rugged, durable and lightweight. That’s a 3-in-1 for you. Warning, backpacking tents can be quite expensive.
Camping Chairs
There is a wide range of camping chairs available in-store, here are some recommendations:
- Classic Camp Chairs
They come with four legs, which are considered stable. It has a straight back and flat seat that goes perfectly with your portable table. Classic camp chairs are typically on the affordable side. - Low Chairs
These chairs are much more suitable for sandy and uneven grounds. It may not serve as well as the classic camp chairs, but they can be a good companion if you plan to sit back and enjoy the lake scenery. However, it’s slightly on the expensive side. - Scoop Chairs
If you’re all into comfort, this chair is the one for you. It doesn’t have a distinct back and seat. It molds according to your shape. Scoop chairs can be quite expensive, but they will serve you well.
Kitchen
- Camping Stove
It’s pretty handy to have a camping stove for cooking during camping trips. It’s faster to cook your meals with this than cooking them over a fire. - Fire Starter
If you’re looking to start a small bonfire, you can pack some newspaper with you. Other than that, dryer lint, egg cartons, or even dried orange peels work well too. - Food
You can cook your meals with freshly prepared ingredients. However, if you’re not a good cook, you can prepare some canned food that are easy to be ready over the heat. - Pots & Pans
You can bring one each and alternate accordingly. It’s a slight hassle, but you’ll save car space for other essential things. - Cutting Knife & Board
It’s good to cut your ingredients the night before the trip. This significantly saves preparation time during your camping trip. However, if you’re rushing, just pack a cutting knife and board with you to go. - Plates & Utensils
Without plates and utensils, you’ll have a hard time enjoying your meals. So, don’t forget them! If you’re not in the mood to wash your plates, you can always opt for disposable plates and utensils. - Cooler
If you’re packing some fresh meat, it’s better to get a cooler to avoid getting spoiled. Furthermore, if you’re bringing cold drinks – it helps them last longer. - Foldable Table
You’d want to find a suitable foldable table that fits with the type of camping chair you have with you. Don’t want your table to be too low that it’s uncomfortable reaching out for your food when you’re having a meal. - Water
You’ll need water for two (2) reasons. First, it’s to keep you hydrated. Second, it’s for washing the dishes. There may not be any water source nearby and if there is, it may not be as clean as you imagine it to be. Hence, it’s best to prepare bottles of water for your camping trip. Always take more water than you think is necessary. You never know when you need it. - Drinking Cup or Bottle
Drinking cups are suitable for your coffee or tea sessions, but if you’re confident you won’t be drinking any hot liquids, an old-fashioned water bottle will serve you nicely. - Eco-friendly Dish Soap & Loofah
There’s a high possibility you’ll be dumping dirty dishwater onto the soil because there won’t be any drainage system wherever you are. So it’s best to use an Eco-friendly dish soap that causes less harm to the environment.
A loofah is a great alternative for sponges and it can remove any dirt off easily. It also has a longer life span compared to your ordinary sponge. - Microfibre Towel
When you’re done with the dishes, just lay them on a microfibre towel. It absorbs excess water well and dries fast. Perfect for drying your dishes!
Lanterns
There is a wide range of lanterns available in-store, here are some recommendations:
- LED Lantern
These come in a variety from an LED rechargeable, solar, or battery operated. It’s most sought after for its lightweight, durable and bright features. It’s also children-friendly. However, you’ll need to prepare a set of batteries just in case it suddenly decides to shut down. - Solar Lantern
This is a very versatile lantern. It can be charged through solar, USB cable or batteries. If there isn’t any sun during the day, you can charge it with a power bank. - Fuel Lantern
Fuel lanterns go way back. They run by butane, propane, gas or kerosene. They produce the brightest lights, but it can be dangerous if you’re not keeping an eye on them, especially when there are children around.
Hygiene
- Toiletry Kit
To hold your body hygiene products such as toothpaste, toothbrush, shaving kit, shampoos & conditioners. - Menstrual Products
It can be very uncomfortable using menstrual pads when you’re camping. You can opt for menstrual cups instead, super comfortable and eco-friendly too. Look them up! - Toilet Paper
Never forget something as important as toilet paper. You’re going to need it when you’re heading to the ‘bathroom’ - Quick Dry Bath Towel
Look for bath towels that are made from microfibre. Easy to dry and, most importantly, eliminates odor!
Sunscreen & Bug Spray
Getting into a habit of putting on sunscreen every time you’re outdoors is excellent! Since you’ll be outdoors for a long time, and you’ll get exposed to UV rays – putting sunscreen is the best prevention from getting skin cancer in the long run. So please, put sunscreen in your camping checklist!
It’s not camping if there aren’t any bugs attacking you. For the purpose of not getting stung by bugs, you can get a bug spray at your nearby pharmacy. For a more natural repellent, you can try out citronella oil. It works exceptionally well from keeping the mosquitoes at bay.
Sleeping Bag
You can’t miss out on the sleeping bag from your camping checklist. Without one, you will be sleeping against the earth, which is not exactly ideal for your back the following day. You may even catch a cold!
First Aid Kit
