Car Buying Tips
Buying a car shouldn’t feel like a gangster deal
Some car deals feel like shady back-alley trades. You know the type - hushed conversations, meetups in rooftop carparks, and that uncomfortable sense that you’re about to be hustled. Especially when you're buying from unverified sources, the process can feel more like a gang negotiation than a legitimate transaction.
Inspired by Carro’s short film Where Trust Lies, here’s how to steer clear of shady deals and actually enjoy the process of buying your next ride - with full peace of mind.

Online car platforms are changing the game — and Carro is at the forefront. With verified inspections, real transparency, and full documentation handled for you, this is how used car buying should feel.
No mileage tampering - We are truthful about the state of our cars. This means we are completely transparent and upfront about the mileage of each car so you can assess if it is the right one for you.

The 3 ways to buy your second-hand cars
1. Direct from owner
Buying directly from a car owner might seem appealing - fewer parties involved, potentially better prices, and the freedom to negotiate on your own terms. But it comes with major risks. You're placing full trust in a stranger’s word. If something goes wrong after the deal is done, there's rarely a way to get help or recourse. The risks of going direct:- No third-party inspection - you’re relying solely on what the seller says, or you’ll need to pay out of pocket for an independent inspection.
- “Accident-free” could just mean they washed off the scratches and buffed out the dents. Again, you’ll need a proper inspection to determine a car’s real history.
- You handle all the paperwork: loan, insurance, ownership transfer, car inspection, etc
- They ghost you after you transfer a deposit - this is more common than you think.
- Incomplete or missing service records
- “Urgent sale” pressure tactics
- Price too good to be true
- Seller tries to change the deal last minute
- Car is under “a friend’s name” or doesn’t match ownership records
2. Buying from your local second-hand car dealer
Dealerships are a mixed bag. Some operate out of professional showrooms, while others do business in open-air lots with aging inventory. While many dealers are legit, transparency isn’t guaranteed. Pros:- You might snag a better deal if you’re good at negotiating
- Loan, insurance, and ownership transfers are usually handled for you
- Easy to browse and test multiple cars, all in one spot.
- Some cars may not be properly inspected or reconditioned
- Most don’t offer warranties - once you drive off, it’s your problem
- Hidden charges like “admin fees”, “processing fees” and other surprise charges
- Some dealers push cars that have been sitting for too long or have known issues
- No return or refund policy
3. Buying from an online car platform (like Carro)
