ICE cars are usually powered by gasoline or diesel, which are liquids created from fossil fuels. To completely get rid of them is not in the cards. Gas stations, refineries, they're part of billions of dollars worth of infrastructure supporting ICE cars. So, it's difficult to image a world where we can get rid of all of this.\u00a0<\/span>\r\n\r\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">However, that does not diminish the fact that many have seen ICE vehicles as a key perpetrator in pollution. In Singapore, the domestic transport sector contributes to a significant amount of greenhouse gas emissions, and ICE vehicles are one of the many contributors to that pollution.\u00a0<\/span>\r\n\r\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Because of this, many countries have made firm stances against ICE vehicles. Although EVs and Hybrids are not as clean as they seem, they are a part of the movement to which we can move towards cleaner technologies. In 2018, Singapore introduced a new commercial vehicle emissions scheme, offering an upfront rebate between $20,000 to $30,000 to car buyers and taxi operators who chose cleaner car models.\u00a0<\/span>\r\n\r\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Mister Heng also announced that those who purchased fully electric cars and taxis would receive a rebate of up to 45% on the additional registration fee, capped at $20,000. This will be implemented for three years, which started in January 2021.\u00a0<\/span>\r\n\r\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Furthermore, they\u2019ve also begun expanding infrastructure for EVs. There are currently about 1,600 charging points islandwide, and the Government plans to work with the private sector to add chargers in public car parks.
