In Singapore, the domestic transport sector contributes to a significant amount of greenhouse gas emissions, and ICE vehicles are one of the many contributors to that pollution.\u00a0<\/span>\r\n\r\nBecause of this, many countries have made firm stances against ICE vehicles. \r\n\r\nIn an effort to mitigate greenhouse gas emissions, many have made an effort to move towards cleaner engine sources like EVs and Hybrids. Although EVs and Hybrids are not as clean as they seem, they are a part of the movement to which we can move towards cleaner technologies. In 2018, Singapore introduced a new commercial vehicle emissions scheme, offering an upfront rebate between $20,000 to $30,000 to car buyers and taxi operators who chose cleaner car models.\u00a0<\/span>\r\n\r\nMister Heng also announced that those who purchased fully electric cars and taxis would receive a rebate of up to 45% on the additional registration fee, capped at $20,000. This will be implemented for three years, which started in January 2021.\u00a0<\/span>\r\n\r\nFurthermore, they\u2019ve also begun expanding infrastructure for EVs. There are currently about 1,600 charging points islandwide, and the Government plans to work with the private sector to add chargers in public car parks.
