Expiry date
The first step is to figure out if your card is expiring so you can get yourself a new one to replace it. You don’t want to be using your card at an LRT station, or God forbid a toll and it turns out you have an expired TNG card. Now you have to back up out of the toll to figure out what went wrong!
If you have a physical card, you can simply check the back of your card. There should be an expiry date on it. This applies to both the older TnG cards and the newer NFC cards.
If you have a digital card, either on your IC or on an NFC card, you can check it on the TNG app. Connect the card to your account and you will be able to see the expiry date. You will also be able to see the serial numbers of all your cards. Remember the serial number of the card you want to get the refund from!
If your card does not have any of these, simply go to an LRT station to top up your card and they will give you a receipt with your card’s serial number and expiry date on it!
Getting a refund
Now, to the important part: getting a refund. You can do this with an expired TNG card or one that is about to expire. You don’t have to wait for your card to expire before you can get your money! So if you have a card you no longer wish to use or is an expired TNG card, simply follow the below steps to get a refund.
Creating an account
The first step is to visit the Touch ‘n Go web portal. If you already have an account, you can skip this section. Otherwise, you have to first create an account using your IC number and the serial number of your TNG card. You will also need to provide your address and other personal info.
Refund request
Once logged in, your homepage should look like this.
On the left panel, select Refunds and Refund Request. You will be directed to a page with several steps. For step 1, select Card Termination.
For step 2, choose the serial number of the card you want to refund. In the next drop-down menu, select “expired cards”. Then you can complete step 3, which is choosing which account you want the refund to go to. You can choose between a bank account, your DuitNow account, or your TNG eWallet. Don’t worry, your TNG eWallet won’t expire!
Once confirmed, simply wait for the email approval which can take up to 14 days. After receiving the email approval, the money will be transferred into the account of your choice within 3 working days.
Card registration
If the expiring card is not visible on the website, you can register that card on the website. On the left panel, select Cards & Devices then select Register Additional Card/Device. You can then enter the preferred card’s serial number and click submit. The card should then immediately appear on the list at the bottom of the homepage.
