LTA car inspection guide: When, where, and how often you need to go

How to know when it is time to inspect your car?
LTA will send you an inspection notice within 3 months before your vehicle’s inspection due date. You can also check your inspection due date through the OneMotoring website. It is important not to ignore these reminders because driving a car that has missed its inspection date is an offence in Singapore.
Failing to comply with an LTA inspection notice (i.e., not sending your vehicle for inspection when due) can result in a fine of up to $1,000, or imprisonment of up to 3 months, or both.
You must complete the inspection before renewing your road tax. If your car fails the inspection, you need to fix the issues before the deadline.
Where to inspect your car in Singapore?
You can send your vehicle for inspection at any LTA-Authorised Inspection Centre (AIC).
The three main providers are:

- STA Inspection
- JIC Inspection

If everything is in order, you will get a certificate of compliance and you can proceed to renew your road tax. If the car fails, the results will show what needs to be fixed.
Common reasons for failure include worn tyres, faulty lights, excessive emissions, damaged suspension parts, and worn brakes. Fix these issues as soon as possible and return for reinspection.
How long does an inspection take?
The inspection itself is quick, usually around 15-30 minutes for a private car.
However, you should allow extra time for queueing, especially if you arrive between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. On busy days wait times can run longer, but the process is generally efficient if you come early or outside peak hours.
